Batik Air Expands Network with New Routes, Strengthening Subang as a City Hub

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 DECEMBER 2025 – Batik Air celebrates a significant milestone this month with the launch of multiple new routes, including four operating from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang (SZB). This strategic expansion further strengthens Subang’s role as a modern, convenient city gateway for travellers in the Klang Valley.

With its central location and ongoing upgrades, Subang Airport is steadily evolving into a key hub for both business and leisure travel. The new services to Singapore and Jakarta (commenced 8 December 2025), Johor Bahru (commenced 11 December 2025) and Langkawi (commencing today) provides travellers with greater flexibility and an alternative to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA T1). This development also supports the government’s Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP), positioning SZB as a vibrant gateway that strengthens tourism growth and stimulates economic activity.

Currently, Batik Air operates flights from Subang to Penang, Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Bangkok. The latest additions strengthen the airline’s growing network, enhancing accessibility and offering travellers more convenient travel options across Malaysia and the region.

Batik Air Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said: “Subang is rapidly emerging as a gateway that offers convenience, connectivity, and efficiency for travellers in the Klang Valley. Our expansion aligns with the government’s SARP initiative, supporting the transformation of SZB into a city airport that benefits passengers, local communities, and regional businesses.”

“As Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, these new routes play a critical role in opening our country to more visitors. Improved connectivity enables travellers to experience Malaysia’s diverse attractions with greater ease, while also strengthening economic ties, trade flows, and regional cooperation. Batik Air sees Subang as a pivotal part of this journey — a gateway that brings people and destinations closer, ensuring our network continues to evolve in line with future travel needs,” he added.

YBrs. Mr. Samuel Lee, Deputy Director General (Promotion II) of Tourism Malaysia, welcomed the initiative, saying: "This launch represents a significant step in strengthening tourism ties between Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia as we gear up for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). By enhancing connectivity, we make travel to Malaysia more seamless, supporting increased arrivals from these key markets. This initiative reaffirms our commitment to positioning Malaysia as a premier destination and gateway to ASEAN, offering vibrant cultural experiences and stunning natural attractions. We look forward to welcoming more travellers from Singapore and Jakarta to experience what makes Malaysia truly unique ahead of VM2026."

Chua Yee Ling, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, in a statement, said that the introduction of Batik Air’s new routes comes at the perfect time as we push towards achieving our Visit Selangor Year 2025 targets. With 6.4 million tourist arrivals recorded as of Quarter 3, these additional connections, especially the new direct flights to Indonesia, our strongest medical tourism market will further boost arrivals into Selangor. The improved connectivity will also support the growing cruise sector in Klang and enhance overall accessibility within the Klang Valley. As ASEAN remains our key focus market, Tourism Selangor welcomes continued collaboration with Batik Air to strengthen regional tourism growth.

This network expansion underscores Batik Air’s commitment to seamless travel and stronger regional connectivity, while enhancing access to Malaysia’s key destinations and supporting the country’s tourism, economic growth, and broader integration across Southeast Asia.
