PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX) has contributed an interactive smartboard to SMK Bandar Sunway as part of a wider corporate social responsibility programme to provide 15 smartboards to schools, collectively valued at about RM250,000.

The smartboard was handed over recently by MyIX Treasurer Ong Cheok Seong and Committee Member Abdulhadi Bin Wahid to Puan Amiin Nahlah binti Sarwani, Senior Assistant (Administration), representing the school.

The contribution is one of 15 smartboards being provided to schools under MyIX’s Digital Classroom CSR programme, collectively valued at about RM250,000.


It will enable teachers to incorporate more multimedia and interactive content into lessons while giving students greater opportunities to use digital tools for learning, collaboration and problem-solving.

Ong said Malaysia’s digital capabilities must be built from the classroom, not only when young people enter university or the workforce.

“By giving teachers and students access to interactive technology, we hope to build confidence and encourage the creative and responsible use of digital tools,” he said, adding that schools needed both connectivity and the tools to make it useful in everyday teaching and learning.

“At MyIX, our core role is to strengthen the Internet infrastructure that supports Malaysia’s digital economy. Through our Digital Classroom programme, we are also helping to put practical technology into classrooms so that more young Malaysians can learn, experiment and prepare for an increasingly digital working world,” he added.

The initiative complements the Ministry of Education’s Digital Education Policy, which aims to develop digitally fluent and competitive students while promoting the integrated, creative and ethical use of digital technology in learning.

Meanwhile, Abdulhadi said the Digital Classroom programme formed part of MyIX’s wider contribution to digital inclusion and talent development. It complements the exchange’s existing training and fellowship initiatives aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s pipeline of technical talent for the Internet and telecommunications sectors.

“A smartboard is more than a piece of classroom equipment. Its value lies in how teachers can use it to make lessons more engaging and encourage students to explore, ask questions and become comfortable with technology. This early exposure is one way of building Malaysia’s future digital talent,” he said.

The contribution comes as MyIX marks its 20th anniversary this year. Launched on 15 December 2006, MyIX is Malaysia’s first neutral, not-for-profit Internet exchange, connecting local internet service providers and content providers to exchange traffic more efficiently within the country.
