Exactly a year ago, the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant was contaminated by ammonia and caused major disruption to almost 20,000 households in Selangor, and it was also dubbed as the prelude to one of the worst water crises in the history of Selangor.

2014 has been a roller coaster year for most of us in Malaysia as we are being struck by the rare drought and also water crisis in most of the states in peninsular Malaysia. Some of the major disruptions were caused by untreated sewerage that flowed into the rivers and forced water treatment plants to shut down.

The news regarding bacteria found in the water from a water vending machine is worrying. The article reported that most of the samples tested were not in compliance with the National Drinking Water Standards and also the upcoming Safe Drinking Water Act.

The water rationing in most parts of the country, especially in Selangor, has finally come to an end.

In the latest development of the water crisis in peninsula Malaysia, particularly in Selangor, we are informed that the government is looking at the extension of water rationing for another three months.
