COMMENT | Or, are we just putting a show on this serious issue at the UN General Assembly?

Once upon a time, in a remote village in a country far, far away called CanLand, there was a man named Namah. Namah was the village headman of CanLand. One day, some villagers accused Namah of stealing the village’s fund. All the villagers were very, very angry and they confronted Namah. They asked Namah whether he had really stolen the money.

In just two days, about two thousand asylum-seekers from Bangladesh and Myanmar, many of whom are Rohingyas, one of the world’s most persecuted minorities, landed in Indonesia and Malaysia. Thousands of them are believed still trapped at sea in crowded boats with limited or no fuel, water and food.

Instead of arguing day and night, just move a vote of no-confidence against Khalid and settle it once and for all.

The minute when Zaid Ibrahim announced his intention to contest in the Kajang by-election as an independent candidate, a lot of Pakatan Rakyat’s leaders, supporters and netizens started to label Zaid with words like “spoiler”, “katak”, “traitor”, “opportunist”, “Umno’s proxy” and etc.

I’m neither a political analyst nor politician but as an ordinary citizen, I see the so-called ‘Kajang move’ as a blatant betrayal of people’s trust for own political gains. I have read various articles and explanations from political analysts and politicians including the one by Rafizi Ramli who explains the necessity for such a move, but I’m just simply unconvinced.
