It is strange hearing our honourable ministers expressing 'shock' over news reports that there was racial segregation happening everywhere in the so-called 'national' schools in Malaysia.

In actual fact, it has been happening for more than two decades!

When I was in school, we were 'quietly' taken from the first class and put in the second class, so that the first class was only for the Malays.

The lame reason given was that it would be easier to co-ordinate the agama and moral study classes.

The government cannot claim that it has nothing to do with the segregation just because "it is not their policy". The blame is theirs.

To feign ignorance that it is happening in schools but implementing a similar policy for entry to universities is a blatant thumb the nose (at the rakyat ) act. And the shame is on us.

Instead of taking our children away from these race-based schools, instead of transferring them to different schools en masse and stand up against such discrimination, we let it happen for the past few decades.

There's no point arguing against the system. We just have to do what we have to do...and that is to put our children in a place where they deserve to be.
