Do allow me to share my confusion with you.

I could not help but wonder about where Malaysia is going, in general, when I heard this over the radio; ‘The first woman in Malaysia to be caned’ ie. Kartika's whipping punishment.

No offence, but the headline seemed to be oozing with pride, as though the act should've been done earlier.

What's happening here? Picking on women again? Sounds very much so to me. What happened to all the fight for women's rights and equality, and the fight for not oppressing women? Fine, argue that she confessed to it.

Which leads me to my real question:

What about the Muslim men who have been caught drinking? Muslim men who still drink? Muslim men who have admitted to drinking?

Will they also be subjected to such ‘punishment’? Or well, because they're ‘men’ they are of slightly ‘higher status’ than women, hence they are exempted from such a humiliation? Or perhaps, the officials just ‘close an eye’ for the males?

Well, the above are just my observations.

I am rather confused about how Malaysia is approaching the issue. We are a developing country after all; I would not like to see my homeland associated with petty sexist issues.
