K'tan Umno offers olive branch

- A Kelantan Umno delegate today extended an olive branch to PAS, after previously criticising the Islamist party and labelling three of its leaders as "tiga jahanam" (three cursed individuals).

"PAS, I want to apologise for my previous 'tiga jahanam' remarks. That was an issue of the past. Now, I am extending a hand for us to mend the fences and start working together to uphold our religion in this country, and unite our people," said Pasir Puteh Umno division chief Zawawi Othman (above).

He was debating the Umno president's policy speech at the 2026 Umno general assembly held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.

In 2022, Zawawi, in his debate at that year's party assembly, labelled PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, vice-president Amar Abdullah and party election director Sanusi Nor as "tiga jahanam", blaming them for allegedly being responsible for the collapse of Umno-PAS ties under the Muafakat Nasional banner.

Umno delegate mocks MACC

- Kedah Umno delegate Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin suggested that the MACC change its Malay acronym SPRM to PKRM, accusing the anti-graft agency of being a tool for the Pakatan Harapan-led government to oppress the coalition's political opponents.

In his debate speech, the Merbok Umno division chief claimed that Harapan started mobilising law enforcement agencies to harass Umno leaders and reopen old investigations against them after the coalition felt mounting pressure to defend Negeri Sembilan during the recent state polls.

Shaiful (above) named former Baling MP and Tabung Haji chairperson Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and former minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Jamil Khir Baharom as among the victims of such alleged harassment.

"This is political intimidation, political harassment, politics of destroying opponents using government institutions," he said when debating the Umno president's policy speech.

"Datuk Seri (party) president, Kedah Umno would like to suggest that MACC changes its name to PKRM, because it has been turned into a political weapon and clearly being used by the people in power to commit character assassination of their political opponents.

Women participation

- Wanita Umno today pleaded with the party leadership to consider increasing women's participation in its decision-making ranks.

Its delegate Haliza Abdullah pointed out that Umno has yet to reach its 30 percent target of women's participation despite repeatedly saying they appreciate the contributions made by the women's wing.

She said that if it is difficult for the party to commit to the 30 percent threshold, they could try reaching at least 20 percent in the near future.

"Thirty percent is not that big, but I know we have to be practical. If you can't fulfil 30 percent in the near future, perhaps you can allocate at least 20 percent; this would still be okay.

"Because now it is below 20 percent. Is that ok, Mr President?," Haliza asked when debating the Umno president's policy speech.
