I refer to the Malaysiakini report Malaysia too dependent on oil and gas, says World Bank .
We as Malaysians have duty to stop the rot, and to stop it now, or this country is doomed. More than ever now, one get’s to see the true picture of the future of this beloved nation of ours and the silence of our royalty - the custodians of the constitution - is even more alarming.
We’re heading the way Philippines and Burma have gone and the way things look, Cambodia will be ahead of us in the next twenty years. If you are reading this with a cynical smile consider the following:
We have been warned about the heavy reliance on our petro-dollars to shove up our economy and we have been warned that our petrol resource will not last another 15 years. We have a leadership that believes that the oil will continue to flow unabated over the next fifty years and they could not care less.
All they want is to build their own personal wealth with these petro-dollars and then scoot lock, stock and barrel to another nation. They already have assets there and their children have all been educated overseas. They are very foreign in their outlook and are ready to remain put there.
The revelations of Private Investigator P Balasubramaniam are shocking and are lending credence to what most Malaysians believe is true. The refusal of the MACC and the police who work in cohorts with this prime minister reveal another side of this huge issue of the lack of integrity facing this nation.
It looks to everyone in the nation that the government of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is incapable of controlling the police force and the MACC. The deaths of A Kugan, and Teoh Beng Hock are a stark revelation of this fact.
On the Lingam tape issue – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Abdul Aziz the foul-mouthed MP who is the cornerstone of BN ‘intelligence’, posed a challenge in Parliament. He posed a challenge which Karpal Singh and what more is willing to take it up for free.
But alas, Dr Mahathir Mohammed looms around the corner and he could spell trouble for Najib, so now there is a deafening silence from Nazri regarding this case. Mahathir has poured scorn on this fellow Nazri who is a hip-shooter - always talking first and thinking later.
It looks only too clear that there is an involvement of those oat the very top either directly or indirectly in the Altantuya murder. It looks even more clear that the police are not interested in investigating this angle.
There may be members in the force who know this and choose for their own reasons to remain quiet for fear of losing their jobs or more likely their lives. The MACC is not concerned either, even though there are still huge issues of alleged corruption in the case of the purchase of the submarines that have not been addressed.
The cry of the wife of Razak Baginda when he was charged with the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, ‘Why arrest him when he is not going to become the next PM of Malaysia,’ leaves many unanswered questions.
Whatever the speculations, one thing can’t be denied - Najib’s refusal to open himself to public scrutiny on this case before assuming political office has left the office of the prime minister compromised.
Nothing said or done short of a royal commission of inquiry appointed by the king on the advice of Parliament will suffice to clear up this mess. In this case, it has to be made up of opposition members because Deputy Prime Minister Muhyuddin Yassin will have some ‘interests’ if he is to dictate the choice of the commission’s members.
It has to be constituted by men of honour on the recommendation of the opposition leaders in Parliament. Today, no office in the government service can be ordered to do specific work that this government directs them to and that is only because the office that Najib holds has been compromised.
We do not have the luxury of time and even the next general election is too far away. Malaysians have to come out in full force and demand this inquiry.
