I refer to the Malaysiakini report No Malay-protection clause in NEM yet .

Some might think that it is premature to comment on the Malaysian Economic Model (MEM) yet to be announced and made public.

Being a layman however, even after the announcement, I will not be in a position to either understand or critically comment on its good and bad aspects from the national point of view, the globalisation effect, the economics etc. That will be the duty of the economists, the opposition, the NGO's etc who will handle such questions efficiently and effectively, it is to be hoped.

There is already a fanatical group sabotaging it prematurely! What I wish to comment on even before the plan is made public is its fair implementation nationally. My misgivings are based on what happened to the NEP which was implemented from 1970.

It is a frightening thought to remember how it was sabotaged to the benefit of one community. All Malaysians know that the NEP was well-meant and its core principle was the eradication of poverty without regard to race and religion.

It is too ,sad and painful to see how those meant to benefit from it - the poor, the neglected and the marginalized - were completely overlooked deliberately for racial and religious reasons.

The role played by the BN partners will go down in our history as the worst betrayals of the communities they had the responsibility to look after as they misrepresented themselves as their champions.

The affected are the now poorer sections of the Malays, Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Iban and Orang Asli communities. Do you think that the NEM should have a special provision to jump start and uplift these marginalised people?

To cut a long story short, is same fate that hit the NEP awaiting the NEM? What are the regulatory and monitoring aspects of NEM's implementation and who will be in charge to ensure that the model not allowed to be sabotaged?
