Recently, there was a heated argument between a presiding judge and the accused in one of the highest courts of our land. The high profile case heard, among other things, bail for a convicted sodomist.

In this matter, the man had not exhausted all legal avenues available to him. In the matter of bail, it usually takes a short matter of time to settle; but in this particular case, it has taken more than half a year! Justice delayed is justice denied.

But justice can be swift, as swift as 48 hours. This happened after the one seeking bail let out an emotional outburst, lambasting the judges and lo and behold, soon after a 'promise' was made by the judges to deliver the bail decision within the next 48 hours!

How's that for swift justice, 'Malaysia Boleh ' style? Dramatic way of getting justice quickly. We can only wonder about the inordinate delay on the bail decision, which only took an emotional outburst to so quickly expedite.

Now we have, none other than our new PM asking for swift justice - but this has nothing to do with any bail application. In a New Straits Times article headlined: 'PM : I want swift justice', this clarion call is now all over the print media, television, radio and even on the internet.

What it tells us is that until now, Malaysian justice has been slogging slowly along. Surely lots of right thinking Malaysians must wish that the newly minted prime minister had said this earlier not only in relations to the court lambasting bail case mentioned above but to many other cases which have occurred during the past two decades.

But so far the newly minted PM has been full of words, rhetoric and promises, can we call for some aksi (action) please, as his 100 days honeymoon period is fast coming to an end. Aksi speaks louder than words. Surely the newly-minted one does not want the initial period of his being the nation's helmsman be remembered as one of mere words and no aksi .
