I agree with Erik Fearn (' Shots of burning man a new journalistic low ') that the pixmen who had continued snapping shots of Iranian Gulam Hassan Anwari while he suffered a fiery torment are to be blamed for not having the least conscience towards fellow humans.

What they had done, despite the popular saying that "pixmen are there to record history and not change it" was wrong and inhumane. I, like other caring Malaysians, have no respect for such people.

But I too would like to highlight the fact that the police had prior information on the suicide bid and should equally share the blame. The Star quoted the police as saying that they sent a patrol car unit to the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) building earlier which left after failing to spot the Iranian since the policemen could not recognise him.

Such an excuse is flimsy and grossly unacceptable. If the police had been informed, it should station its personnel there instead of merely conducting a swift patrol and leaving soon after.

Common sense should prevail under such circumstances and a wise decision on the part of the police could have averted the tragedy. But they opted for indifference and a life is lost in the process.
