I find Gong Ngie Hea's letter (' Maybe we should ban driving '), very amusing and childish indeed. Judging by the tone of the letter, Gong apparently blew his/her top (no puns intended) and that obviously affected his/her judgement.

In my previous letter , I was criticising the authorities for their obvious double standards in handling this situation. While I am concerned about the safety of motorists, I also mentioned the importance of the farmers' livelihood. Farmers feed us and I appreciate that.

What I am not happy with is that our government can't seem to find an alternative to open burning after all these years. What I am also not happy with is that by scheduling burning times, the authorities are jeopardising the lives of 6pm-motorists.

No, I don't feel smug when driving. I feel terrified driving in smokes. Maybe Gong should really try driving blindfolded and you will have a rough idea of how I feel while driving in heavy smokes. Maybe Gong should ring up the Kedah mentri besar and ask about his recent first-hand experience.

Do we really need more accidents and casualties before we lower our head and admit that smoke is really dangerous in terms of health and safety? Be practical, the spiteful suggestion of banning driving is feebleminded and will not work.
