It is so sad to read about Tasik Chini left for dead , and what has become of it.

I had the opportunity of visiting Tasik Chini long before the dam was built and agree that during low tide, it was practically impossible to travel from the tributary to the lake. Visitors have to get out from the boat and walk alongside the boat. This was because the boatman dragged his boat whenever the water level in the tributary was low.

Getting in and out of the boat to push the boat when the water was low at certain stretches added a new dimension to the tour. You could feel the cool, crystal clear water wetting your feet and enjoy the shade of trees along the tributary to the lake. Such an invigorating sight.

You could even see fishes swimming as you pushed your boat. It was peaceful and serene and as soon as you reached the lake, the lotus flowers seemed to nod in approval of your visit.

After the dam was built, I visited the place again. The dead trees and the smelly water are my only memories of a place that I was in awe of on my first visit.

I have not gone back there since. If just removing the dam will solve and rehabilitate the ecosystem of Tasik Chini, then it must be done.

What are we waiting for?
