LETTER | It appears that the standard of English has dropped substantially, not only in the PAS-led state of Kelantan but also down south in Singapore.

A digital board at an MRT station believed to be located on the island republic carried the Christmas greeting must have sent a number of people in stitches as the greeting read: "Marry Christmas."

A Singaporean, speaking on condition of anonymity, said he is embarrassed when he read the greeting which has been circulating on social media.

"I cannot believe it that our Singlish has dropped to such low standard," he moaned.

"This is supposed to be a public place where messages on the digital board is read by thousands of people. How can they make such a mistake!"

The picture has since gone viral on various social platforms. It is not known whether the message has been fixed, but since the digital board indicated that the next train to Expo station would be arriving in three minutes, the MRT station is likely to be on either Singapore's EastWest or Downtown Line.

There is an MRT interchange station just next to the Changi Airport MRT station.

This follows a bunting printed by the Malaysia Airport Berhad that appeared at the airport in Kota Baru where the greeting read: "Mary Christmas!"

Meanwhile, an official from the Malaysian Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) said he can confirm that it is not on one of its local MRT stations as it does not have any stations by that name.
