I refer to your report Three months to build, two hours to destroy on the demolition of a church in Johor

I had just returned from abroad telling all I had interacted with that we had religious freedom and maturity, that there was unity in diversity here in Malaysia. And then this happens which already has been picked up by the international media organisations based on the calls I have received for comments.

It is a pity that this was done after pretentiously taking the moral high ground and after preaching about various 'values and principles' to world leaders and government heads during the recent Asean+3 summit in Kuala Lumpur.

All peace-loving and religiously matured Malaysians will be as devastated and embarrassed as I am over this incident more so since this was the holy month of Advent for Christians the world over.

It is also a pity that certain cross sections in Malaysia, more so those who participated in the demolition exercise of a religious building and others who claim to have a religious monopoly of values have yet again shown that they are far more shortsighted than believed .

Worse still, it was not the act of a PAS government.
