I agree with Bhavani Krishna Iyer - of MIC Women mudslinging shameful - that leaders of democratic organisations should accept challenges from their deputies and members gracefully without fear.

Contenders should stop unhealthy methods of campaigning such as mudslinging, character assassination and involving friends and families for political mileage and support. All these may cause irreversible damage to the organisation.

Though not an MIC member, I believe Wanita MIC members are mature enough to make a decision and elect a leader based solely on her contributions and track record and nothing else. Last-minute politicking for political mileage is only done by desperate leaders to sway fence sitters.

Hence, there is no need for name-calling and wild allegations. Just like Bhavani Krishna Iyer , I, too, find it odd that leaders of democratic organisations cannot accept a challenge and contest in a mature manner.

Many a time egoism, craze for power and fame is the main cause for this unhealthy practice, as everyone feels he or she should win at any cost, forgetting the fact that their actions and remarks will affect the party and the larger interest of their communities.

Leaders come and go. No one can resist change and progress. In order to progress and to achieve greater things in this era of globalisation, new leaders and new ideas are a requirement. I hope Wanita MIC will not deviate from its original vision which is to serve Indian women. Everyone should close ranks once the election is over and the members have elected a leader of their choice.
