Introduce transparent platform to facilitate aid to frontliners

LETTER | Malaysians want the very best for all our frontline healthcare workers and our healthcare facilities and are willing to do our part to support them.

At this stage, there appear to be massive amounts of unclear and hard to verify information regarding supplies at hospitals and the welfare of the frontliners.

We hope that the government and authorities are not withholding information about what is needed by hospitals and other institutions merely to "save face".

This is a national crisis and emergency, and pride should not be a factor in admitting where and when supplies are short.

We understand that administrators of hospitals and other facilities must surely have their hands full and that supplies used in handling Covid-19 cases are likely to be used at very fast rates.

The rakyat stands ready to raise funds and help ensure that our hospitals and other facilities are well stocked, and that our frontline healthcare workers are well taken care of.

It is difficult to do so, however, without proper coordination and transparent information.

We call upon the government to be fully transparent about what supplies and services are needed, and be open to accepting help from civil society to ensure that those needs are met.

One central, reliable, trustworthy, and transparent source of information and coordination of aid would go a long way in helping Malaysia combat Covid-19 effectively.

The government is the most logical entity to lead this effort, and instruct all the relevant facilities to provide the necessary info. Civil society stands ready to assist this effort of creating a transparent platform for coordination in any way whatsoever.

We all want to help, but we need to know how. Please streamline the process effectively.
