I am a foreigner and lawyer by profession, married to a local lady and working as an investment consultant here in Sungai Petani, Malaysia. My entire business is online and I need a 24-hours Internet service. I am a taxpayer and also pay a fixed monthly subscription fee to TMNet's Streamyx broadband service. In Sungai Petani, this is the only ISP available.

A single day's interruption in my Internet service costs me thousands of ringgit. Frustratingly, interruptions in Streamyx service have become a routine now, almost every week for up to five days at a time. I am unable to manage my business. Upon every interruption, I make an immediate complaint to Streamyx's customer service and they promise to restore the connection within 48 hours (which itself is quite a long time) but it is never restored.

For every next call, their customer service tells me to wait another 48 hours. It takes another four to five days to get the service restored. And after every two days, same problem occurs again and I have to be offline for another four to five days.

In the last one month alone, my Streamyx was offline for more than 20 days with four to five-day intervals. I made complaints and each time it took Streamyx staff four to five days to restore my service, although they are bound to restore it within 48 hours.

My business is suffering badly because of the irresponsible behaviour of Streamyx staff who do not care about the faults and never try to fix the problem promptly. I am suffering huge losses. All my requests to Streamyx to find the root fault and fix it have gone without results.

There were few other foreigners in this area who also used to work online but they have all left the place because of the poor Streamyx service. As I have bought a house here and there is no buyer for it at present, I am unable to move out. I have to sit here and suffer the poor Internet service provider.

I have sent this complaint to all from the Prime Minister's Department to TMNet's head office but until today, no action has been taken against these delinquent Streamyx staff.

Does TMNet believe in making its customers bankrupt?
