On my recent trip to Malaysia, I made a visit a Tesco hypermarket near my place for some grocery shopping. As I looked at the prices, my mind automatically started converting each and every price to pound sterling.

To my shock, quite a number of stuff were more or less the same price as in a Tesco in the UK after conversion. I would accept this if they were for electrical goods or even branded clothing but for groceries? This is not acceptable.

One item that would interest many is the vegetable cooking oil. A three-litre bottle of vegetable cooking oil at a UK Tesco is only priced at 1.80 which is about RM12.20. Guess the price at Tesco Malaysia? The exact same cooking oil costs RM 15.80.

How on earth can a nation that produces 47% of the world's palm oil supply manage to come up with such a ridiculous price for its domestic use?

Certainly someone in the supply chain has been making a huge profit by sucking the public's blood. Who could that be?
