I refer to the letter Federal Court didn't deny Joy her right . After reading so many letters about the Lina Joy issue, I believe the writer is among the few that seems to have a better understanding of the issue and I must say I fully agree with him.

The salient points in the Lina Joy case are:

  • She is now a Christian. She even got her name changed.

  • No one should stop her or try to change her mind about what religion she wants to practice. Religion is between man and God. It is very personal. I believe if anyone try to harass Joy about her religion, she has the right to take action under the laws of the country.

  • She now just wants to remove the word 'Islam' from her MyKad. So if the procedure has been laid out, she just needs to follow the procedure. Go to Syariah courts then wait for a reply.

    • If they don't make a decision or give a reply that does not make sense, then Joy has the right to pursue the matter further.

    What I don't understand is why she didn't go to the Syariah courts in the first place.
