I'm greatly disappointed with the prime minister's so-called newly-appointed Chinese advisers ('Consult us first: PM's aides tell Chinese dailies', Aug 20). It seems to me that Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still not listening to the Chinese Malaysian or, for that matter, all Malaysians.

The newspaper editors are not elected officials; they are not representatives of anyone but themselves and their companies. So why meet with them? The only reason I can think of is that it has something to do with media control. Somehow, Dr M is still trying to 'influence' the editors behind closed doors, while more and more Malaysians, regardless of race, are demanding for more accountability and transparency.

It shows that Dr M is only interested in resolving the issues before they become headlines instead of putting more consideration into his policies and actions before their implementation. I am also mistrustful of the suggestion of the meeting between the PM and the editors. It would seem that these 'newly-appointed' advisers have failed miserably in what they were appointed to do.

As for the meeting (since the opportunity is already there) I think the editors go ahead and have a pow-wow with Dr M, but with the condition that anything said in the meeting will be made available to the public.
