IJN move typical of Malaysian government

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Cabinet hits pause button on IJN sale .

The Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) is a one of the very few rare jewels amongst the government agencies that is well-managed, profitable and truly cares for the poor and the middle-class citizens of this country.

It was shocking, to say the least, when the deputy prime minister announced the privatisation of IJN and an offer letter from the government had already been issued to Sime Darby to acquire a 51 percent stake in IJN.

This is a wake-up call to all Malaysians that the government does not have the hearts of its citizens in mind when, with the stroke of a pen, they could just privatise IJN without prior consultation with all the relevant stakeholders.

Even the IJN doctors were kept totally in the dark.

Despite assurance from the government, there was an immediate uproar from the Malaysian public which by now have seen, all too often, the concession holders benefitting at the expense of the general public.

This happens in all the major privatisaton projects in Malaysia eg the independent power producers and the highway operators reaping immense profits from the pockets of the general public.

If the present government, at their whim and fancy, can privatise a profitable government agency in the name of privatisation, Malaysians will now be very disgruntled, distrustful and sinister over every move of the government.

The government had always encouraged its citizens to serve the country well but how can Malaysians serve the country well when the government does not serve its citizens well?
