Much has been said and much more will be said about the new American visa requirements for some predominantly Muslim countries.

Yet, before we get angry and criticise the Americans, let's look at it more closely. First of all it's not a ban, just an extension of the waiting period for approval from a week to three weeks. So it's more of an inconvenience than an outright insult. The waiting period is just to allow the Americans to do the background checks as is the right of all countries to perform.

Three weeks is not an unusual period to wait for a visa for some countries. And the Americans have said that it should be temporary.

The American government is merely doing what it feels it needs to do to protect its people.

Malaysia, who in the past had banned British companies from getting government tenders for an article written in a British tabloid, would do nothing less and probably a lot more. Can you imagine the government's reaction if white supremos came to Malaysia to bomb and kill and swear to do it again and again.

All the visa requirement means is that Malaysian men just need to apply for entry visas two weeks earlier than they would normally have to, nothing more.
