The political saga in Perak has now taken a supernatural twist with a PAS representative claiming that he has proof of Barisan Nasional turning to a bomoh for help.

"I revealed facts. I will not run away from giving a statement. We have proof relayed to us by a specific source and so I made the media statement," he told Malaysiakini .

Yesterday, Perak Barisan Nasional Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir filed a police report against Khalil over an entry in his blog.

Among others, Khalil had accused Zambry and BN of bringing a bomoh into the state assembly to cast a spell on the speaker's chair.

He also called on the state mufti to issue a fatwa (religious edict) on using the services of a bomoh for political means.

Come Thursday, when the state assembly reconvenes for the first time since BN staged a political coup in February, Pakatan Rakyat Speaker V Sivakumar is expected to be booted out.

Last week, Sivakumar said BN had already submitted a motion to axe him and install local MIC leader R Ganesan as the new speaker.

'Disgusting and nauseating'

Meanwhile, Zambry lambasted Khalil for making such baseless allegations.

"This is a disgusting and nauseating action by a state rep who has no religious principles," he was quoted as saying by Bernama .

Describing it as an accusation borne out of desperation, Zambry said the PAS leader should not act as he pleased.

zambry abdul kadir interview 200409 01 "I have already filed a police report and consulted my lawyer regarding taking legal action," added the menteri besar who lodged the report at the Kampung Rapat police station in Ipoh.

Zambry also said Khalil had acted in bad faith and his intention was to instill hatred in the people towards the menteri besar and BN.

Saying that the 'lie' cannot go unpunished, Zambry added: "I have been very patient (in the past), including about their ceramah where slanderous statements and baseless allegations were hurled. But this (the blog entry) is a very irresponsible action."

He also expressed disappointment that the PAS representative had dragged the state religious leader into the controversy as well.

"I cannot compromise on this. He (Khalil) is a 'religious person' who should be aware of the tenets of Islam," he said.

Perak has been in turmoil since the defection of several Pakatan Rakyat representatives, paving the way for BN to seize control of the state.

Meanwhile, Khalil said it is the menteri besar's right to file a police report.

"But it is my right to report (to the media about the alleged incident) and call on the mufti to issue a fatwa .

"Whether it happened or not, I think the mufti must issue a fatwa on whether a bomoh can be summoned," he added.
