- Political activist Mandeep Singh wants Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to justify the need for snap polls beyond fulfilling the latter’s and his party’s ambitions.
He said the government has been destabilised multiple times over the past six years due to political ambitions, with the focus on being in power rather than public benefit.
“Once again today, Zahid wants Malaysians to believe that another election is the answer. Perhaps before asking Malaysians to vote again, he should answer a more basic question: What exactly is the political programme that Malaysians are being asked to vote for?
“Government must exist to serve the people, not merely the political ambitions of Umno politicians, particularly Zahid,” he said.

What more does Zahid want? The rakyat have swallowed extraordinary compromises in the name of political stability and allowing this government to complete its term. Former adversaries now share power, uncomfortable appointments have been defended as necessities, and demands for accountability and reform have repeatedly been asked to wait. Many voters feel that constitutional conventions, institutional credibility and their own patience have been stretched almost to breaking point. They accepted these compromises because another round of political instability seemed worse. That acceptance was never a blank cheque for UMNO to keep raising the price of cooperation. If Zahid now wants snap polls, he must explain what Malaysians would actually be voting for: a different programme, a better government, or simply another rearrangement of positions among the same leaders? And if he wants to preserve the present government, what further concession does he expect? The public cannot remain permanently hostage to negotiations over political survival. A government seeking a full term must use that time to deliver reforms, improve livelihoods and restore confidence in public institutions. Stability must produce public benefit. Zahid should tell us plainly what remains unsatisfied, and why the rakyat should pay yet again to satisfy UMNO’s demands.
Zahid Hamidi is a grossly incompetent and silly UMNO Baru President who just wanted to become Prime Minister. That's all—nothing beyond it. Look, previously he forced Ismail Sabri to dissolve Parliament, and he thought UMNO Baru would win big. However, the party ended up losing badly, with just 26 seats out of 30 BN seats. This outcome marked UMNO Baru's worst electoral performance in history. History will repeat itself, and UMNO Baru will lose again.
Agree. Government exists to serve the people — not to preserve the political careers, positions and ambitions of politicians. So let’s be clear: calling for a general election is not about UMNO. It is about a Madani government that has failed to deliver since 2022 and now seems more interested in clinging to power than confronting its own failures. The longer this failed government drags on, the more Malaysia pays the price. Promises have become excuses, reform has become rhetoric, and political survival has taken priority over the people's welfare. If this government truly believes it still has the people's mandate, then stop hiding behind political calculations. Call the election and let the people decide. After all, a government that is confident in its performance should have nothing to fear from the people.
