A secondary school student in Kuala Lumpur has lodged a police report against her teacher, alleging that he had sexually assaulted her in front of her entire class.

The Form 2 student filed the report on May 5 at the Brickfields police station.

In it, she said the teacher had reprimanded her for not bringing her grammar exercise book which was required during a lesson.

“He first hit my hands with a heavy text book although I begged him not to hit me. He also pulled the chair away before I could sit, which caused me fall to the floor,” she said.

“He threw my bag and my books at me. Then he suddenly grabbed my hands and groped my chest, although I kept pushing him away and told him to stop.”

She also said the teacher pushed her out of the classroom and that all her classmates had witnessed the incident.

“I went straight to the school principal and the discipline teacher to report what my teacher had done... but the discipline teacher told me to keep the matter a secret and asked me to not tell my parents about what happened,” said the student.

“The discipline teacher gave me an ointment to apply on my knee which I had hurt when I fell, and told me not to over-react to the incident.”

However, the student told her parents about what had transpired and they met with the principal the same day.

According to the report, the principal had rubbished the student’s complaint and informed her parents that the teacher had only scolded her for not bringing her Malay-language grammar book.

“My principal said I am lying and told my parents that I was making up stories,” the student said.

Accompanied by her parents, she lodged the police report last week, because the school “had not taken any immediate action” against the teacher while investigating the incident.

‘Action being taken’

Speaking to Malaysiakini today, the student’s mother said there has been no feedback from the school or the police since the complaint was made.

“They (the school authorities) don't seem to be bothered to action quickly... the teacher could have scolded my daughter for forgetting her book... but doing what he did was unreasonable and unacceptable,” she said.

She also said her daughter was not likely to lie about such thing and pointed out that other students had witnessed the incident.

“In front of us, my daughter's classmate told the principal what had happened, but they have done nothing,” said the mother.

She claimed that teachers have since warned the students not to say anything about what they had seen.

The principal, when contacted today, said the school is investigating the incident.

“We have to listen to both sides of story and we have taken the necessary action to resolve this matter soon,” she said without elaborating.
