The PAS Muktamar passed a resolution without debate on the need for a more rigorous system as well as new formula in the selection of candidates representing the coalition.

They noted how the Pakatan Rakyat felt for the betrayal by the Changkat Jering, Behrang, and Jelapang assemblypersons.

PAS also see the growing support of the people including the registered voters, especially the increasing support of the non-Malays and this has been proven in the last general election.

The Islamic party said it would support any candidates chosen by its Pakatan allies but feels that the distribution of seats based on racial composition should be reviewed.

"Hence, we suggest that Pakatan comes up with a filter system to choose the right and capable candidates and there is a need for a new formula based on racial quota and the present needs," said the motion.

Changkat Jering assemblyperson Osman Jailu, Behrang's Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi and Jelapang's Hee Yit Foong were former Pakatan state representatives but had defected to Barisan Nasional - triggering a political impasse in the northern state.

With their defections, and together with Bota assemblyperson Nasharuddin Hashim - who first defected to PKR from BN then back to the ruling coalition fold - BN managed to take over Perak after they claimed that they had the majority to form the state government.
