No action yet on renegade DAP leader, Chong Eng refutes report
DAP disciplinary committee chairperson Chong Eng today refuted a report by an English-language daily yesterday which implied that she had let renegade party leader Goh Keng Huat off the hook despite his breaching a party directive.
What was reported is not true, Chong told malaysiakini today.
The Star reported yesterday that DAP sources said Goh, who disobeyed a party directive to stay out of the Indera Kayangan by-election in January, had only been given a warning letter signed by Chong.
We have not sent anything to Goh, said Chong, who is also the member of Parliament for Bukit Mertajam.
According to her, the decision on Goh, the MP for Nibong Tebal, will only be made after the Ketari state by-election on March 31.
There is speculation that DAP is dragging its feet on the matter because it does not want to risk losing Goh to Keadilan, where his mentor, former DAP stalwart Gooi Hock Seng, is.
Goh had denied any wrongdoing and defended his action in campaigning for Keadilan in the by-election which was eventually won by Barisan Nasionals MCA.
No letter
Meanwhile, Goh, who is in Kuala Lumpur for the current parliamentary session, confirmed that he has yet to receive the letter from the disciplinary committee.
Goh also said he will be helping his party during the Ketari by-election.
DAPs Choong Siew Onn, 34, will be facing Barisan Nasionals Yum Ah Ha, 51, from Gerakan in the by-election.
During the 1999 general elections when DAP was in the Barisan Alternatif, it lost the Ketari seat with a slim margin of 231 votes.
