Former Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy may take legal action against several media organisations for publishing reports which allegedly implicated him in the Port Klang Free Zone

(PKFZ) scandal.

PKFZ was an idea mooted by the government in the 1990s to provide improved facilities for international cargo distribution and consolidation at Port Klang, the world's 16th busiest port.

Its development, covering some 400 hectares, opened up a can of worms when its cost rose to RM4.6 billion from RM1.1 billion.

"Tan Sri (Chan Kong Choy) is very upset with the unverified news reports," a source close to Chan told Bernama today.

"We believe that the intention of such reports is to create a rift between Tan Sri (Chan) and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat so that supporters of Tan Sri (Chan) in the (MCA) party will be angry. This is in an attempt to turn away support from Ong," the source claimed.

Some news organisations had published stories citing a confidential report by a government-appointed task force probing the PKFZ scandal which identified serious breaches by several people involved in PKFZ's development.
