Women should not turn their backs on the Barisan Nasional government because the ruling coalition has provided them with the best.

Thanks to the present government, the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor said, women in Malaysia lead better lives compared to women in many countries.

This government has given a lot of support and cooperation (for women)," she told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, which was also attended by representatives of several women non-governmental organisations.

"Many issues were resolved because the government is sensitive to the needs of women, families, children and the (numerous) communities in general," she added after attending a function organised by the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

Earlier, its minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the ministry has endorsed Rosmah as their ambassador to create awareness on women, family and community development issues.

"She will be our number one supporter and champion to bring issues of women and family development to the mainstream," she added.

Climate change and green economy

At the same press conference, Rosmah also shared her thoughts on her recent trip to the Danish capital Copenhagen, where she accompanied her husband Najib Abdul Razak to an international

summit on climate change.

She hoped that Malaysian women would work towards creating awareness on climate change and the need for a green economy.

"At first, I didn’t know what was a green economy. But after I started reading and researching on the internet... I now know what is a green economy.

"I hope women and women NGOs would include climate change and green economy as part of their struggle. Climate change is a serious problem," she said.

Rosmah also shared her experience about the cold weather in Copenhagen, which required the airplane she was on to be 'thawed' before take off.

Thank lucky stars, we've no blizzards

Moving to her son's ordeal in Washington, the prime minister's wife said he was in a grounded flight for six hours due to a blizzard.

"Can you imagine how worried I was?" she said, adding that her son had called her from the plane.

"If we have some problems, you can imagine what are the problems faced over there because of climate change, the system and policies. And people are not cooperative at all," she said.

"What I want to say is that climate change is a serious problem. We must thank our lucky stars we are here. We only have floods. If there are blizzards, we can’t go out and it is very cold," she added.
