Federal Court judge Mohtar still in critical condition
Federal Court judge Mohtar Abdullah is still in critical condition at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) intensive care unit.
A court official said that the former attorney general, who was admitted to the hospital on Aug 5, has yet to regain consciousness.
It is believed that Mohtar, 57, became unconscious after collapsing in his home two weeks ago. He was immediately sent to SJMC where he underwent a surgery.
Controversial appointment
Mohtar had served as attorney-general for seven years from Jan 1, 1994 until he retired in December 2000.
He headed the prosecution team in the corruption and sodomy trials of jailed former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim. The trials have been slammed by international legal bodies as a miscarriage of justice.
On Jan 23 last year, amidst controversy, he was appointed as a Federal Court judge at the age of 56.
He is said to be the youngest person ever to be appointed as a judge at the highest court in the land.
