'Bayan Baru voted for PKR, not Zahrain'

vox populi big thumbnail 'The encouragement of party-hopping by both PKR and BN and the spate of MPs turning Independents betrays a contempt for the rakyat.'

Bayan Baru constituents call for Zahrain to step down

Antihoodwinkers: The people are the ones who voted you to office on the Pakatan Rakyat platform. Now that you have resigned from Pakatan, the people demand that you resign from the seat and re-contest as an Independent.

If you have any honour, resign. Otherwise, you are not the elected representative of the people anymore.

Malaysiaboleh: Dear Sir, the mandate given to our elected representatives by the rakyat and the legitimacy they hold is by virtue of the party they represented when the rakyat voted them in. Who are they to subsequently interpret their mandate differently without reference to the rakyat who voted for them?

The encouragement of party-hopping by both PKR and BN and the spate of MPs turning Independents betrays a contempt for the rakyat. I would urge thinking citizens to reject individuals of this ilk, whatever hat they choose to wear, in the next elections. That will send a message to these individuals as well as both PKR and BN about the wisdom of defections as a political strategy.

Party hopping or any move to become Independent should require a resignation by the MP and a by-election. Before going off on their own trajectories, MPs should be made to seek the rakyat's endorsement.

4thGPendatang: Very good. Now the constituents of the other froggies should also do the same. This is also to shut them up for shamefully claiming that they are still supported. Hopefully it will deter other potential frogs from betraying those who voted for them.

Paradox: Remember, the frog culture were highly promoted by Anwar in 2008. Now it seems Umno gets the benefit from the promotion. Anyway state assembly member for Pantai Jerejak (Sim Tze Tsin) should concentrate on serving the people, not collect signatures and wasting his time!

Can all Pakatan MPs and state assemblypersons stop politicking like BN and start looking at the people's real problems? You Pakatan have wasted two years. Don't waste another three years.

Lucia: During the 2008 tsunami, many of us were very angry at Umno/BN and said we would vote for any party except BN. Even if a cow was put up as a candidate for PAS, PKR, DAP against BN, we would have vote the cow in.

So you see, Zahrain Mohd Hashim, it is not the candidate, it is the party. We voted for you because you were in PKR. Now that you are not, it is only fair you should resign.

BTN: I believe this is a healthy development. It's the voters who voted for their representative in the general election, and if there were any MP who chose to leave their party, than they should vacant their seat as well.

Let the people choose their representative again rather than let them feel cheated. If Zahrain has any shred of principle left in him, he should resign and let democracy take its natural course.

Are all MCA members blinded?

Jeffrey: MCA is no longer the MCA of yesteryears. Now they are all self-serving people who use the Chinese vote to enter high office and enrich themselves. How many politician do you know who would really fight to expose their parties' wrongdoings? Or empower the rakyat?

The good ones are dead and their virtues long forgotten.

Cala: Look at the way Ong Tee Keat treated Chua Soi Lek, the very person who was elected by the central delegates for the deputy president's post in October 2008 party election. Tee Keat defied party traditions in not appointing Soi Lek as chairman of the Johor MCA liaison committee and chairman of disciplinary committee. Against (principles of) good governance, Tee Keat appointed only his close friends to non-elected party posts.

These silly actions of his would later come back to haunt him, as we have witnessed. These words ‘their own interests' give rise to different interpretations.

I am not harping only on one of Tee Keat's unfulfilled promises. His basic character is one totally not suitable to helm MCA. Instead of practising good governance, he chose to surround himself with yes-men. Look at the way he massacres his party cadres. Look at the way he appoints the state liaison committees chairmen. Look at the manner he executes the Greater Unity Plan. Look at how he uses Ng Cheng Keat to sack a democratically-elected deputy president.

Now he talks about a reform agenda. Say what you like. Tee Keat is to me, a divisive person. To see a united MCA is the last thing in his mind. To him, he is the center of the earth, like Mao once thought.

Gk: If Ong Tee Keat decided to contest for the president of MCA again and ultimately won by a bigger margin, then that will be deemed as a no-confidence vote against Najib. If that is not the case, then MCA members are indeed blinded.

MCA is no more relevant as far as right-thinking Malaysians are concerned, because we are not blinded. Racial parties are no more our choice.

Ong Ka Ting mulling return to MCA

Justine: Ong Ka Ting mulling return to MCA? He must be joking. The last time he led MCA in the general election, the party was nearly wiped out. He is responsible for the MCA mess. He claimed that he is not aware of his elder brother Ong Ka Chuan's plans in the party polls. Nonsense.

Nirwana: Don't you see that this is part of the plot? First, be the hidden third force building up the intensity of the conflict. Then, create an opening to make a grand comeback so that MCA's billions of asset will be neatly "taken care of".

It's just sad that the central committee delegates are not wise enough to see through this. Or perhaps they want to be part and parcel of the ‘shareholders'.

Anyway, whatever may be the outcome, MCA has become irrelevant to the Chinese community at large. They will go into oblivion comes the next general election. RIP, MCA.
