Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir slammed the Pakatan Rakyat bench over its behaviour during the boisterous sitting of the state legislative assembly this morning.

"They turned the House into a street demonstration, by displaying placards. They were shouting and hurling insults. This is the type of behaviour and morals they are trying to present as elected representatives."

Zambry accused Pasir Panjang assemblyperson Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and Kuala Sepetang representative Tai Sng Ng of trying to assault him.

"Nizar crossed the line (to the Barisan Nasional bench). You all saw it," he said, although many reporters were of the opinion that his account was exaggerated.

Zambry repeatedly stressed that Pakatan's antics had gone against its promise to be a "good opposition" after failing in its bid to disqualify Zambry as the menteri besar via the court.

He said he believed that Pakatan members repeatedly brought up trivial issues with the aim of disrupting the proceedings and claimed that today’s walkout had been planned.

Pakatan members had walked out of the chamber after failing to convince speaker R Ganesan to debate the motion of thanks on the royal address, which they argued is required by the Standing Orders.

Zambry scoffed at the reason for the walkout, saying that the tabling of Bills takes precedence over the motion of thanks.

"They were trying to find excuses not to stay in the House," he said.

Speaking to reporters later, Ganesan dismissed Pakatan's claim that he had deviated from Standing Order 13 and wrongly allowed the Bills to be tabled before the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address.

He said the debate must come in the form of a motion, which can only take place after the Bills have been dealt with, in accordance with Standing Order 13.

r ganesan 130509 Ganesan said this was clearly spelt out in the Order Paper and that the opposition merely had to wait for all the Bills to be tabled before participating in the debate.

"After the menteri besar tabled the motion, I waited for Nizar. He was the first choice as the seconder, but he had already walked out. But now, they are insinuating something that is not true.

"They were petty and rough in the House. They don't respect the laws of the state and country. They came in and created havoc by questioning my status.”

Prior to the Question session, Pakatan members had stood up to question the validity of his appointment.

Ganesan said he ignored this because he was appointed legally in accordance to the Standing Orders.

Pakatan members kept up frequent interjections for about 45 minutes on this matter.

"No matter how many times they asked (about this), the answer (from me) was the same. So their aim was just to disrupt the proceedings," added Ganesan.
