About 200 PKR members from the Bayan Baru division left the party en masse today as they had lost confidence in its leadership.
Its permanent chairperson, Ismail Mohd Ali, who headed the group, said PKR leaders pursued their own agenda and not the interest of the people.
"PKR leaders could only talk of their responsibilities but could not deliver their promises, especially to the Malays in the rural areas," he told reporters in Penang today.
Ismail, who held the post for the past eight years, said they would join another party which was more committed in championing the rights of the people, especially those in the rural areas.
He said their decision was not prompted by the resignation of Member of Parliament for Bayan Baru Mohamed Hashim Zahrain, who resigned from the PKR recently.
