Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has lashed out at Umno for attacking Hulu Selangor PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim over his past drinking habit.

NONE Lim said if Barisan Nasional wins the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat based on this campaign strategy , it would be a victory “without morals”.

He urged the people to respect Zaid’s admission of his failings, and also said the latter was better than those in Umno who have not repented their shortcomings.

“Why punish those who have repented, but not those who have not? Those who wish to cast the first stone must make sure they have not sinned,” Lim said, borrowing from the Bible.

Lim, also the DAP secretary-general, said Pakatan Rakyat will not stoop so low as to launch personal attack as a campaign strategy.

“We would rather campaign on issues of corruption, economic direction and justice, freedom and democracy...these are the issues that people care about,” he told a press conference.

Zaid has admitted to having consumed alcohol in the past but said he has repented this. He has apologised.
