May 13 rally aimed at spooking non-Malays

PAS slams May 13 rally, calls for cancellation

Ichigo: The greatest crime a democratic country can commit is to create chaos and unrest against its own citizens. The rally is just a cover or excuse to incite hatred among the Malay community while cowing the other communities into toeing the line.

It is indeed sad that our leaders, instead of trying to win the minds and hearts of the people, have resorted to such a destructive move. The fact that Dr Mahathir Mohamad - who was once my favourite leader - is involved, further saddens me.

How I wish Dr M acts as a father figure to all Malaysians, regardless of races.

Baiyuensheng: I am beginning to feel sorry for these people. The ghosts of May 13 will never get to rest unless the government acknowledges the crime committed.

Dood: Naturally, such a rally will be approved, and even sanctioned, by Umno/BN/Perkasa and, of course, the police. The usual excuses (which only seem to work when used by their pals) are that the people need to speak and show their support or have some avenue of expressing their concern over the opposition's lies/manipulation/disrespect/insult to race/insult to religion/insult to the royal institution or what have you.

Never mind that the date is chosen deliberately to be provocative or that the events that will surely go on that night will be highly incendiary, racist and bigoted in nature.

If any non-Umno/BN/Perkasa group were to hold something similar or on that date, you can bet that threats of ISA will be invoked and the cops will all be on standby with their roadblocks and water cannons.

And this Mahathir - even in his retirement years, he is not contented with all the foundations he has set up to create the racist society that is Malaysia today. He still wants to meddle and whip up racist sentiments. He, along with all the other Umno/BN/Perkasa folk, will certainly be reviled by future, enlightened generations of Malaysians.

Mikey: Bring it on, Dr Mahathir. Your slide from ex-premier and statesman to gangster head is complete. We have all learned and move on from May 13. Unfortunately, you and your goons still wallow in it.

Police declare 'Allah' issue off limits in by-election

MYOP101: Since SUPP has used the a silly billboard showing the kampua mee, DAP should also use the same picture with prices of mee three years ago versus now. Then put this slogan: "With prices going up, what you see is not what you get. Vote for DAP, vote for change."

As for the Islamic state issue, put the whole Umno protest again the pig farm in Selangor and, next to that picture, that silly state assemblyperson photographed with his thumbs up . Then put this slogan: "Flip-flopping is common, but is this what you want? Vote for DAP, vote for change."

Malayamuda: If Umno allows anti-Islamic banners under the BN banner, that means Umno is anti-Islam. Put the pictures of BN's anti-Islam banner on Youtube and Facebook, then the rest of the fanatic Malays will leave Umno.

Sodomy trial faces 'historic' contradiction

Geronimo: Round I: Karpal - 1, Saiful - 0. Isn't it becoming so obvious? In the haste to rid Anwar Ibrahim from the political scene, they forgot one simple thing - to ensure that the police report and the charge are the same.

If I were the judge, the case should be thrown out. Go for it, Karpal Singh. Shred Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan up for good to show that it does not pay to mess around with the Lion of Jelutong.

Christine Yong: It is such a waste of time, energy and money to keep postponing trial to merely to make simple decisions. It is fair and reasonable to provide the list of witnesses and police reports as requested by Karpal Singh. You can't twist and turn the law as and when you like.

I thought the courts are a place to get justice. Not so in Malaysia. I pray for God's justice and for His intervention.

Good men: We shouldn't be surprised at their desperation to remove Anwar from the scene. Nor should we be surprised at their ineptitude.

It happened last time when the charge was amended again and again. First the building where Anwar was supposed to have committed Sodomy I had not even been completed at the date named in the charge, so they changed it to a later date. Then it turned out that Anwar was not even in the country on that date, so they changed it again.

Don't be surprised, people, this is BN business as usual.

Exhaust Leaked: You need not have gone to law school to know the difference between sections 377(b) and 377(c). Even my 10-year-old son knows the difference. I presume that the learned judge should throw this case out of the court and order the arrest of all the people in power linked to the ‘wayang' of the century.

Robert L: I'm not a lawyer, but this sounds like a simple judgment - if the charge is for consensual sodomy, and Saiful claims there was no consensual sodomy, then Anwar should be acquitted. Plain and simple.

Teh: The judge said that he realised the discrepancy between the charge and what the witness had said. But he still needs another day to consider the case? Is he serious?
