MIC Youth deputy chief V Mugilan will be referred to the party's disciplinary committee for allegedly working against the party's interests during the run-up to the Hulu Selangor by-election said party president S Samy Vellu.

NONE "Mugilan was one of those people who had worked against the BN in the by-election because he failed in his attempt to be fielded as a candidate," Samy Vellu (left) said in a statement today, hours after the youth leader demanded his immediate resignation.

The long-time president had announced yesterday that he would quit his post eight months before the next party polls, scheduled for May 2012.

Samy Vellu said the party had actually wanted to take action against Mugilan after the Hulu Selangor by-election but deferred it.

Mugilan, who is Hulu Selangor MIC Youth chief, was tipped to be the party candidate for the parliamentary seat but Samy Vellu had preferred his deputy G Palanivel.

NONE His choice however ran contrary with top BN leadership who was more in favour of Mugilan.

However the party information P Kamalanathan (left) was chosen as a compromise candidate.

Samy Vellu also added that Mugilan acted as a stooge for "certain people", and had prevented Palanivel from re-contesting the parliamentary seat in the April 25 by-election.

In his press conference earlier today, Mugilan said he had lost confidence in Samy Vellu's leadership and vowed that the party will lose out heavily in the 13th general election if the latter stayed on longer.

Pointing out that Samy Vellu, 74, was a liability to the party as he was not able to solve issues faced by the community in his 31 years in power, Mugilan said, the former will not be able to undertake any changes in the coming year.

Samy Vellu also reiterated that his decision to step down next year was made on his own accord and he was not under any pressure.

"I will continue to ensure the MIC is free from people who are bent on destroying it. We do not want people who are mere stooges of other people," said Samy Vellu.
