AIM may lodge reports with police, Suhakam over aborted meet
Reports may be lodged with the police and the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) over the police's action to prevent an anti-Internal Security Act meeting from proceeding two days ago.
The Abolish ISA Movement (AIM) said today it will decide on the next course of action at a special meeting to be held later this evening.
AIM vice-chairperson Zahir Hassan told malaysiakini among the issues to be addressed is the possibility of lodging reports with the police and Suhakam.
The Tuesday meeting, organised by AIM, was to have witnessed the launch of the 'ISA
Mala Fide
campaign.
However, more than 100 police personnel, including those from the Federal Reserve Unit, cordoned off the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in Kuala Lumpur the venue of the meeting.
This led to a three-hour standoff between the 300-odd participants and the police. Several people sustained minor injuries when FRU personnel used force to drive the crowd back.
