Pakatan Rakyat has demanded that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak must convene a special sitting of Parliament within 48 hours to debate the Israeli attacks on humanitarian aid ships yesterday.

They are also demanding that the premier comes up with a concrete plan to save the 12 Malaysians detained by the Israeli navy on board the ships.

NONE The opposition coalition further said the premier should immediately cancel the government's contract with the Israeli-linked public relations firm Apco Worldwide, and every direct and indirect trade relations with Israel.

"The prime minister should take the 48-hours time line seriously and abolish all informal and formal business ties with the Israelis immediately," said Pokok Sena parliamentarian Mahfuz Omar (right in pink in photo) who was heading the demonstration.

He also questioned why there is no statement regarding the Israeli attack from the prime minister.

Subang parliamentarian and human rights activist Sivarasa Rasiah who was also present, said it will reflect badly on the premier if there is no action from his part.

"An impromptu speech by the PM on the issue is not enough," said Sivarasa.

"It will be a nail on the coffin for the BN-led government if there is no action or termination of Apco Worldwide contract immediately," he added.

An open letter to the US president

PKR youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin has also issued an open letter to the US president Barack Obama, urging an immediate security council meeting to address the issue.

"We also demand an economic sanction to be imposed on the Israeli government," he said.

He said the letter was submitted to the US political counselor Brian Mcfeeters today.

Lembah Pantai parliamentarian Nurul Izzah, who met the media representatives after submitting the memorandum today, called on the US government to walk the talk and translate its on-going concern on human rights, democracy and anti terrorism into real and effective actions in Gaza.

"We call on the US president, who is also a Nobel Peace Laureate, to address these issues immediately and to condemn these atrocities," she added.

She also urged the US government to refuse any further political, economic and security negotiations, corporations and relations with the Israeli regime until a further substantial move by the regime to end the onslaught against Freedom Flotilla.

One of the supporters from PAS and a retired major, Sidek Abd Majid, also questioned the PM if the government is keeping mum on the issue as advised by the public relations firm, Apco Worldwide.

Mahfuz, also informed that a massive demonstration will take place at the US embassy after the Friday prayers which will be held at the Kampung Baru mosque.

" We will march from the Kampung Baru mosque and gather in front of the US embassy as a sign of protest," he added.
