Felda: At this rate, we'll be bankrupt in five years
'Felda is no longer Umno's electoral fixed deposit. Should India stop buying Felda palm oil in favour of Indonesia, that will be another blow to this once well-run state government-linked company.'
Tan: Gov't meddling caused Felda's overruns
Phan Gaik Cher: It's outrageous to build a headquarters at RM660 million. How can this benefit poor small-holders? The only objective is to line the pockets of PM Najib Abdul Razak and his BN cronies.
If the colossal leakages into the pockets of BN could be stopped, the small-holders would all be millionaires today. Najib, you and BN had better stop robbing the rakyat of their hard-earned money or you will face the consequences in the coming general election.
Anonymous: Petronas, Felda, Sime Darby, MISC, Bank Bumiputra, etc. When are we going to learn? Come election, the stupid rakyat vote them back into government for a mere RM50. That's what most of the poor kampung folks get.
That's why the idea of enriching the kampung folks with education so that they can uplift their living standards is a no-no. Keep them uneducated, keep them stupid, and the cost of getting a vote gets lower. Throw in religion, and you have the magic formula.
Yah Lan Tu At: This country will be doomed in about five years' time, not because of the Chinese or Indians or others, but because of the Umno Malays if they continue to ignore the economic plunder and all the wrongdoings done by the few.
It is the Malays in Umno who is causing this because they are the ones who seem to be totally ignorant of the wrongdoings. Wake up and speak up, or get ready for the worst case of economic plunder yet to be revealed.
KayKay: I guess this means that Felda is no longer Umno's electoral fixed deposit. Should India stop buying Felda palm oil in favour of Indonesia, that will be another blow to this once well-run state government-linked company.
Najib should be investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the RM2.7 billion plunge in Felda cash reserves. Of course, nothing of that sort will happen, since MACC is a toothless bulldog when it comes to Umno's top brass, as well as Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud in Sarawak.
Susah Kes: What the Pakatan Rakyat team should be doing is going from house to house in the Pakatan states, and especially the Felda settlements, and disseminating this information. Do it now while you guys still have control over the states, instead of waiting another by-election before jumping into action. By then, it will be too late.
Nazri: Parliament need not decide on Tian Chua
Nicholas Lim: I wonder why suddenly BN is so scared of a by-election. Isn't this a God-send opportunity for BN to wrestle the seat from Pakatan? At any other time, BN would have forced a by-election. No confidence, huh?
Ferd Tan: Surprisingly, I agree with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz this time. Let's follow the spirit of the judgment made by High Court justice Ghazali Cha. He made it very clearly that he didn't want any by-election.
In the meantime, amend Article 58 (1) (e) of the constitution to remove the ambiguity of the law. To amend this clause, support from both sides of the political divide is required as it needs a two-thirds majority vote. Let's see if our YBs in Parliament can work together.
Lim Chong Leong: Justic Ghazali's decision is erroneous in law. When he sentences a person of a crime, he has to consider the person's guilt and remorse and deterrence when meting out the sentence. He has no reason to sentence less in order to avoid a by-election. The disqualification of an MP is not a factor for him to consider, only the effect of his sentencing.
His second boo-boo is that he thought that an MP would avoid disqualification with a sentence of RM2,000 or less. This judgment cannot stand. He also cannot reduce the fine to RM1,999 since the basis of that was to avoid a disqualification which, as I said earlier, is not for him to consider.
Tian Chua should seek a retrial as the judge is tainted with other political considerations.
Au fait: Who is this judge to ‘cha-cha' with the rakyat and say that he does not want a by-election to be held? Is it him alone to decide? Don't other authorities have any say? He really has the audacity to think he can decide for us.
Pudu jail demolition gets negative public response
CarL: If heritage is what everyone wants, then the whole country will be filled with old buildings with no practical value. Pudu jail is over 100 years old - the decision should have been taken to bring it down 40 years ago. Tourists have no interest in such buildings, unlike the Louvre in France, old castles, Buckingham Palace and other such buildings.
So those who are emotional about Pudu jail, please remember the horrors that went on in there, the type of people it held and then tell yourself, I am glad at the end of the day we are using it for a useful purpose. The traffic in that area stands still, sometimes for hours.
KSN: The Umno government sees everything in ringgit. It places no value on history like other countries such as the US, the European countries, China, India, etc. The latest example is the moving of Parliament from its current location. How sad, how stupid, how idiotic.
Lim Chong Leong: Under the BN government, everything is money for some crony Umnoputra to fill his pockets with. Without the wall, they would then say the rest of the building is also of no value. As it is, some parts of the prison have already been flattened. The land is worth billions to some tycoons and some government officer will stand to benefit to alienate it to them.
If we look at other old gaols, like Alcatraz and Melbourne gaol and the Tower of London, these actually generate big bucks from tourists.
