Four burglary suspects were shot dead at a Pahang state executive councillor's residence in Jalan Teluk Sisek, Kuantan early today, said Pahang police chief Robiah Abdul Ghani.

She said state youth and sports committee chairperson Wan Adnan Wan Mamat and his family and two maids were unhurt in the 3am incident.

NONE Wan Adnan ( right ) earlier alerted the police that his residence was broken into, Robiah told reporters in Kuantan today.

She said the burglars got into the two-storey house by forcing a side door with a gas cylinder.

"Wan Adnan and his family were in their rooms upstairs when he called the police about the burglary," said Robiah.

She said the police gunned down the suspected burglars when they tried to attack the police with sharp objects as they got out of the house.

However, one of the men, who was injured, managed to escape, she said, adding that he was clad in a red shirt.

Suspect injured himself

She said the police has yet to ascertain whether the suspects, believed to be in their 30s and 40s, were locals or foreigners.

The police found a machete, a metal cutter, a knife, a cleaver and a tyre crowbar at the scene.

Robiah said they believe the burglars are responsible for a spate of break-ins using similar modus operandi - breaking open the door with a gas cylinder.

"We are asking all clinics and traditional healers to report to the police if they are approached by a man in his 30s or 40s seeking help for an injury.

"The burglary suspect injured himself while fleeing the scene and not due to gunshot wounds," said Robiah.

She said Wan Adnan and his family were not confronted by the burglars.

"The police got a call from Wan Adnan at about 3.30am. Wan Adnan was in the house with his wife, children, his parents and two maids," said Robiah.
