The police has no plans to allow their Indonesian counterparts to interview a Malaysian who allegedly received money from the Jemaah Islamiah terrorist group to finance the Oct 12 Bali bombing.

Inspector-General of Police Norian Mai was quoted by national news agency Bernama today as saying that the local police force is capable of conducting its own investigation without any outside help.

However, he said the police is prepared to share any information on the matter with the Indonesians.

"We have always been in communication with the Indonesian police on criminal cases involving both countries," he said during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Anti-terror swoop

The police chief was asked to comment on the possibility of the Indonesian police coming to Malaysia to interrogate Wan Min Wan Mat, 42, regarding his alleged involvement in the financing of the Bali bombing which claimed the lives of over 190 people.

Yesterday, a news report quoted Indonesian police as saying that a sum of RM114,000 was given to Wan Min, who is allegedly the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) treasurer, to finance the Bali bombing.

The terror suspect was arrested in Kota Bharu, Kelantan on Sept 27 as part of an anti-terror swoop and is now currently being held in detention under the Internal Security Act.

Wan Min, who is said to be the leader of the Johor branch of the JI-linked Kumpulan Mujahiddin Malaysia, was a lecturer at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Skudai, Johor.

Meanwhile, on the news that several members of the Abu Sayyaf group have fled Philippines and are now hiding in Sabah, Norain said that there was no evidence to show that the Filipino rebels were already here.

However, he said, the police patrol has been intensified in Sabah waters after reports that the Abu Sayyaf members may try to escape to Sabah.
