Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong said that the circumstances of Rahimi Osman’s statutory declaration were dubious in nature although he did not deny counter-allegations that there was no coercion or confinement of the latter.

“I was waiting at the penthouse of Quality Hotel when Rahimi walked in heavily escorted. He was immediately ushered to the next room followed by Anwar. Only after several hours I met him and I witnessed him signing the declaration.

“Rahimi only stated in the statutory declaration that he fears for his life. There was nothing (in it) to implicate other people,” Wee told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Rahimi, a former aide to PKR de facto Anwar Ibrahim, had caused a storm last Wednesday when he accused lawyer Latheefa Koya and others of confining him at the Quality Hotel, Shah Alam and coercing to sign false statutory declarations.

Among others, Rahimi claimed that he was coerced into implicating then Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor in a conspiracy against Anwar.

Latheefa and others have disclaimed this repeatedly, most recently claiming that Wee had witnessed the voluntary signing of the statutory declaration.

Today, Wee did not reveal if Rahimi was indeed coerced, but insisted that the latter looked “nervous” throughout.

NONE “Rahimi did look nervous and so did Anwar when the statutory declaration was being made. That was the first time I met Rahimi too,” he said.

Rahimi ( right ) said that he was not involved in the second statutory declaration because he was told that it would implicate certain individuals.

“If it is true, it would have appeared in the first statutory declaration itself... I didn’t look at (the second statutory declaration) because I smelled a rat.

“I heard that they were unhappy with the first one because it did not implicate anyone, it seemed to be hanky-panky and clearly, it was a conspiracy with a predominant purpose to injure certain parties,” he said.

He told the reporters present that he still has the copy of the first statutory declaration but it has been mislaided. 

“I am sure I have it still but I have not been able to find it. I have no qualms about producing it once I do. I will hold a press conference, perhaps tomorrow, if I find it,” he said.

Calling Latheefa a “young upstart” and “politically immature” for linking him, the now-independent MP added that the former was trying to escape from being blamed by naming him as one of those who was aware of the statutory declaration.

Rahimi's allegations has created a lot of questions on the timing and purpose of his revelations, which was made ahead of two crucial by-elections. 

Defence lawyers in Anwar's ongoing sodomy trial have claimed that Rahimi's allegations had no impact on the case.
