As the campaigning period for the by-election in Galas nears its end PAS finally admitted that Gua Musang parliamentarian Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah's influence in Galas is still strong.

NONE "This we admit. That is why we don't like to go head to head with him," said PAS election director Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman.

However he said that Tengku Razaleigh's ( left ) influence may have waned since after 30 years and he may have to resort to "underground" tactics to maintain his influence.

"Ku Li will have to defend his reputation and prove to BN that he still has influence."

"We know he has a group of people working for him in Galas. Working undergound. People that go from house to house," said Abdul Halim.

'Bagi pitih'

Asked what these "underground" supporters of Ku Li do on these visits, Abdul Rahman said "bagi pitih" (Kelantanese for 'giving money'), making the universal sign for money by rubbing his thumb and forefinger.

He said that Ku Li with material if not overt support from Deputy Premier Muhyiddin Yassin, will continue to use "financial weaponry" to buy the people's support.

Wrong timing

Quizzed about news of the hike in fuel price in RON 97 as reported by the media, Abdul Halim ( left ) said he is puzzled by the move.

"The timing is wrong. They should have increased the price after, not before, the by-elections."

"It will surely affect the by-elections in Galas and Batu Sapi," he said.

However, he did not elaborate if the Islamic party will capitalise on the issue in their last minute campaign.
