DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang is expecting an apology tomorrow from Malay daily Berita Harian which carried a report yesterday alleging that he had branded Umno as kafir (infidels).

lim kit siang and dap Speaking at a press conference in Gua Musang today, Lim ( left ) said complainants who lodged police reports over the article have been informed of this by the police.

The complainants claim that the police had contacted Berita Harian in their presence and was told that an apology would be published tomorrow.

The three complainants are Pasir Pinji state assemblyperson Thomas Su, who is also DAP’s campaign coordinator for the Galas by-election, DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) secretary Teo Kok Seong and DAP women’s wing deputy secretary Leong Mee Meng.

It is understood that Berita Harian will publish a correction tomorrow in a small column, not amounting to an apology.

Lim: Let’s wait and see

Teo, who was with Lim at the press conference, said the investigating officer (IO) for his police report had called the author of the contentious Berita Harian report.

“The author then admitted that he ‘ salah tulis ’ (made a mistake) and informed the IO that Berita Harian will make an apology tomorrow,” said Teo, who is also the Dapsy national organising secretary.

Asked if he would accept the apology, Lim said he will wait and decide tomorrow.

“I want to see what kind of the apology is that,” said Lim, adding that its impossible to write such a report and blame it on ‘ salah tulis ’.

He also urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to suspend Mohd Ali Rustam as Malacca chief minister for making a false and malicious allegation against him which appeared in the report.

Lim was not at ceramah

The Berita Harian report claims that Lim had called Umno infidels during a ceramah on Monday, which featured Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The report quotes Mohd Ali as saying that the situation was made worse when the crowd cried “God is great” when Lim allegedly uttered the phrase.

This had prompted Putrajaya Umno division youth wing to lodge a police report against Lim.

However, Lim today clarified that he did not attend the said ceramah in Gua Musang as mentioned in the report, let alone have ever uttered such phrases.
