Berita Harian 's one paragraph correction on page 8 of the newspaper today in response to DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang's demand for an apology for falsely reporting that he called Umno kafir (infidel) has been rejected by Lim as neither an apology nor a correction.

Lim, who is Ipoh Timor MP, said Berita Harian had not shown any remorse or apology in publishing the so-called correction .

The daily on Tuesday quoted Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam as saying at a Barisan Nasional campaign talk at Kampung Baru Hulu in Gua Musang, Kelantan, that Lim had called Umno kafir and that the DAP was becoming braver and was also seen as interfering in Islamic affairs.

"I am unconvinced and unimpressed with what is published. There is NONE no remorse. You need a microscope to find it," Lim ( left ) said in describing the "correction" at a press conference today. Three DAP officials have filed police reports against the daily.

DAP chairperson Karpal Singh, who was present at the press conference, said he would file a writ of summons on Monday at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur against Berita Harian and Mohd Ali.

From what has been written, said Karpal, a senior lawyer and experienced lawmaker, the daily and Mohd Ali had committed criminal and civil defamation.

"Attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail should institute action against the daily and the chief minister."

"If Mohd Ali is trying to find trouble (by uttering lies), then he has found the right place. I will work over the weekend, despite the Deepavali holidays, to prepare the suit," he said.

Lim said if what Mohd Ali said was wrongly reported, then the chief minister should join him in suing Berita Harian .

"I also call on Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar to act on the police reports lodged against Berita Harian and ensure the police do not cover-up this matter. They should uphold the law by instituting criminal defamation charges ."

Lim also called on Umno president and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to immediately suspend Mohd Ali for his false and seditious statement that went against the spirit of 1Malaysia and showed that Mohd Ali was unfit, unqualified and unworthy of being the head of a state government.

"What was said and reported is directed to cause inter-racial strife, disharmony, lies and falsehood."

Deduct RM10 from AG and MACC chief

Lim also said that he was not satisfied with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz's explanation for the closing of the case against private investigator P Balasubramaniam.

"I will move a motion, at the parliamentary committee stage on Tuesday, to have the AG's salary be deducted by RM10.

"The AG has shown a lack of professionalism, impartiality and is not performing his constitutional duty to properly act on the Balasubramaniam's affair."

Balasubramaniam had alleged he was forced to make a second statutory declaration to retract his first declaration that alleged the involvement of Naijb's wife Rosmah Mansor in the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaaribuu.

The Ipoh Timor MP also said he would move a similar motion that day against Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamad for Malaysia's slip in the international corruption perception index.

"We only have 4.4 points, from 4.5 last year. It is the lowest attained by the country. At this rate, we will eventually lose out to China, which has made tremendous progress. This is truly shameful and reflects badly on Malaysia's battle against corruption," Lim added.
