Sekinchan assemblyperson from DAP Ng Suee Lim has been warded in a hospital for a head concussion which he sustained after being allegedly assaulted by 30 men two days ago.

Ng Suee Lim in hospital SJMC sekinchan rep He was, however, in high spirits when Malaysiakini called him, and said that he will be able to make it to the first day of the Selangor state assembly sitting when the meet kicks off on Monday.

According to Ng, after he had lodged a police report claiming that 30 people had rained blows on him during an incident in Sawah Sempadan on Thursday morning, he felt dizzy and went immediately to the Sime Darby Jaya Medical Centre.

“I was punched three times in the head,” he revealed, adding that he will be discharged tomorrow.

Malaysiakini had previously reported that a scuffle broke out when Ng tried to visit a number padi farmers to investigate a dispute between them and Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas), a federal government agency tasked to regulate the rice industry.

Sawah Sempadan sits on the border of the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency and Ng’s state constituency of Sekinchan.

NONE The DAP politician said he suspected that his attackers were from the Tanjong Karang Umno division.

He refuted Tanjong Karang MP and Agriculture and Agro-based Minister Noh Omar’s ( left ) accusation that he was there to hold a demonstration.

According to Ng, the farmers had invited him to meet them for a dialogue.

‘Bernas shortchanging farmers’

NONE The DAP politician had received complaints from several farmers that Bernas has been shortchanging them, buying up their stocks at a much lower price.

They claimed that Bernas has been buying up their padi at RM1,150 per tonne, when the market price is RM1,300 per tonne.

The reason for the low price, said the farmers, was because Bernas had claimed that their stocks had a much higher water content of 20 to 25 percent instead of the usual 17 percent.

“This has affected the farmers’ income,” lamented Ng.

Ng also slammed Noh’s “warning” for him to stay out of Tanjong Karang.

“They cannot stop me as an assemblyperson from doing my job. My service is without boundaries. (Former Selangor MB and Sungai Panjang assemblyperson) Mohd Khir Toyo and (MCA president) Chua Soi Lek come to Sekinchan all the time - I never call on anyone to beat them up.

“This  is simply a culture of gangsterism and behaviour unbecoming of a minister,” he said of Noh Omar.
