The issue of former Klang councillor Tee Boon Hock’s sacking from DAP took centre stage as many of his supporters got up at the 16th Selangor DAP state ordinary convention today to protest the “heavy-handedness” in the handling of his case.

selangor dap 281110 tee boon hock Members from a few branches, particularly the Klang branch where Tee was a senior member before his unceremonious exit, persisted with their demands for an answer to their questions, prompting speaker Ng Wei Aik to ask for a three-minute break at the end of the debate to decide whether or not he would allow a debate on the issue.

Klang parliamentary liaison committee publicity secretary Loo Hock Chai got the ball rolling, asking why the party took such strong action against Tee, who was found guilty of abusing his power as a Klang councillor by issuing support letters to a company owned by his son.

Klang branch chairperson Ivan Ho ( left ) added that a motion to debate Tee’s case had been submitted to the convention organising committee three weeks prior as required.

“This is the proper place to draft a resolution that we can later give the national leadership to address this injustice,” he said to cheers from supporters seated at the back of the hall.

selangor dap 281110 alan ho foo keong When it was pointed out that the chair did not receive any motion to debate the issue, another member, Teh Tong Huat, stepped up to present a copy of the motion as proof of delivery to the organising committee.

A delegate from Balakong, Tan Chiew Wah, also challenged the party to charge Tee in court for criminal breach of trust (CBT) if, as has been claimed, they had enough evidence to prove the latter was guilty of committing a crime.

Kuala Langat branch chief Low Chai Yong stressed that grassroots members have no better avenue aside from the convention to raise whatever complaints they have on state party matters such as Tee’s case.

“Do branches have the right to address every issue in the party, or is it only the Selangor liaison committee that has that right? This shows the party does not respect the grassroots, and we want to regain the rights of the grassroots after this convention,” he said.

Ng later shot down the motion to debate Tee’s sacking, as the state committee had already been dissolved to make way for the state party polls and was no longer in a position to make any decision.

He added that the motion, submitted by the Teluk Pulai branch, was not drafted properly as it merely informed the convention of the branch’s decision to appeal for Tee’s reinstatement and not to seek the consensus of the convention.

Jolted by minor ruckus

Later during the winding up session for the fifth agenda of the convention, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng caused a scene while Unity team chief Teresa Kok was responding to points raised during the debate, and had to be escorted out of the hall.

selangor dap convention 281010 crowd “Teresa, you won,” he interjected loudly over the microphone when Kok was speaking, prompting Ng to order the security detail to eject Lim amidst protests from the floor.

Lim’s antics riled Balakong delegate Tan Chiew Wah, who was then seen approaching the microphone to speak until he too was stopped by security crew.

Tan was overheard saying “don’t pull me” as he was escorted out of the convention hall on the orders of the speaker.
