Willing buyer-willing seller: 'You help me, I help you'?

vox populi small thumbnail 'What willing buyer, willing seller? Everyone knows there is no free lunch, especially in this day and age unless you're Mother Teresa.'

Khir: It was on a willing buyer, willing seller basis

Changeagent: There are just too many holes to poke a stick at in Dr Mohd Khir Toyo's story. Assuming the value of the property had appreciated 100% since it was built, the original cost of purchase would have to be at least RM12 million.

The first obvious irregularity is how did Ditamas director Shamsuddin Haryoni manage to acquire the property for a mere RM6.4 million, which represented a significant 46.7% savings from the presumed RM12 million purchase price?

The second glaring discrepancy is why would he then want to sell to Khir Toyo for only RM3.5 million, and losing another 44.6% of the value he had purportedly paid?

I recognise that while there is no law in Malaysia governing the buying and selling of assets at a loss, it remains blatantly clear to the average Selangor citizen that the whole transaction process was suspicious, below-board and fraught with dishonesty.

Wira: This reminded me of an incident in the past where I was stopped by the police for a minor traffic offence and was demanded a small token of money from him to ignore the infraction.

Upon receiving the money, the policeman reminded me that was not corrupt money but my willingness to reward him as an appreciation of my support to the underpaid police force. I guess he and Khir Toyo shared pretty much the same mentality.

Nicole: What willing buyer, willing seller? Everyone knows there is no free lunch, especially in this day and age unless you are Mother Teresa.

Anonymous: Willing buyer, willing seller is not what this case is about. What favours were promised for such an incredible deal? Anyone in a position of power knows only too well how valuable their ‘help' can be and that any deal that looks suspicious is obviously an abuse of position and/or power.

Also where did the money for the house construction come from? And if the leader is corrupt, how about the rest of the Selangor BN team?

Abasir: "Willing buyer, willing seller; you help me, I help you." Sounds familiar? The motto of an officially corrupt government that is both evil and anti-national.

Habib RAK: Khir, you were holding the highest public office as the MB of Selangor. When someone offers a RM6.4 million property for RM3.5 million, surely it is a bribe. The bribe is on a willing giver, willing taker basis.

NX: The mighty Abdul Taib Mahmud still walks free and that symbolises what BN is all about. Najib Razak, the people are wiser and they are able to differentiate the true evil in this nation. BN stands for ‘Ketuanan of Corruption'.

Pants on Fire: When the issue first came to light, Khir said the whole house and land costs RM3.5 million. If that's what he said, he was lying through his teeth as the land alone cost him RM3.5 million.

Clearwater: Willing buyer, and more than willing seller for underpriced land if the seller believes he can get substantial collateral benefit from the transaction. But what of the construction contracts for the humongous Balinese style mansion and its fittings and furnishings?

It must have cost much, much more than the RM3.5 million for the land. Maybe close to RM20 million. How many more untold tales behind the construction of the mansion?

Paul Warren: Does Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Haryoni have any more property for sale? I also want to buy.

'Desperation, thy name is Najib'

David Yee: PM Najib Razak needs to re-examine his remarks on the opposition. In a democratic nation like ours, BN should never act like the rakyat owed them a living for the last 53 years.

All the social and economical indicators have shown badly on their handling of our country's well being. From social empowerment, to the reduction in foreign direct investments, to rising crime, to wastage of nation's resources, to Sarawak and Sabah's mismanagement of natural resources and rising acceptance of corruption, etc.

Tell me, can we face a competitive world out there when the Umno and BN elites continue to mismanage the nation for the next 50 years?

KLeo: I would love to watch such a debate between representatives from the ‘patriotic and all-righteous' BN and the 'evil and anti-national' Pakatan Rakyat.

TKC: A public debate between Najib and Anwar Ibrahim and between Muhyiddin Yassin and Lim Kit Siang - what a mouth-watering and brilliant idea!

Ghkok: The best thing for our country, and for BN, is for us to end the 53 years of one-party rule in our country, and cement a two-party system where voters alternate between voting Pakatan and BN to form the federal government, with the system operating in an oppression-free environment.

Let us move forward, just like Taiwan 10 years ago when president Chen Shui Ben's democratic progressive party ended the KMT's 55-year grip on power. KMT eventually returned to power - totally reformed.

Rolls-Royce: What we saw yesterday at Masjid Negara and the railway station was despicable, evil, anti-national and desperation.

Despicable because armed police bullied unarmed civilians who are only demonstrating peacefully. Anti-national because armed police prevented and stifled a national issue from being highlighted.

Evil because they only want to help the cronies to exploit the people. Desperation because the intention was to sustain their own power come what may.

Judge refuses to withdraw from hearing case

Changeagent: Let's refresh the judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah's memory. You threatened Karpal Singh with contempt, then withdrew your remark and admitted that your uttered threat was inappropriate.

I think any reasonable man who have read the transcripts in its proper context would have the clear impression that there was always a real danger of bias, except for you and the prosecutor who injured a leg.

Rick Teo: Why must the judge be so adamant in wanting to hear this case? If there is any slightest suspicion of bias by the defendant, then he owes it to his conscience to recuse himself.

A reasonable man by any stretch of imagination can clearly see that he is bias and the whole trial is just a farce. Why doesn't he just sentence Anwar and save us this ‘sandiwara' (shadow play)?
