Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz has described Pakatan Rakyat MPs as “stupid” and “crazy” for threatening to sue Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

Commenting on legal threats by Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh, Nazri, who is both de facto law minister and minister in charge of parliamentary affairs, said that the courts cannot interfere with Dewan Rakyat proceedings.

NONE “This is a crazy thing to do and I believe that it will be rejected by the courts due to parliamentary supremacy,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Nazri that there had already been judgments which clearly states that the judiciary has no jurisdiction over Parliament.

“There is the sovereignty of Parliament and supremacy of Parliament. They have got cow dung in their heads.

“I assure you that if they take it to court it will be kicked out. What law did Karpal (Singh) read? He is a third-class lawyer,” said Nazri with a laugh.

Karpal had warned that legal action would be taken against Pandikar for abusing his powers in relations to the passing of a motion to suspend Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and three others for six months.

‘I didn’t give instruction to Speaker’

Nazri also denied opposition claims that he had instructed Pandikar to invoke Standing Orders 44 to stop the debates midway and call for a vote without proper debates.

NONE “I didn’t give any instructions. The speaker had given two hours and I said I wanted to read my motion, that’s it.

“What they were talking about has got nothing to do with (what was listed on) the order paper today. So I have every right since it is my motion and I want it to go through.

“I just told the speaker I want to read the motion because it’s in the order paper. They were supposed to raise a point of order but they didn’t,” he said.

On the ruckus raised by the opposition bench this morning, Nazri said the Pakatan MPs had broken so many rules that they are liable to further action by both the speaker and the government.

However when asked if the government will take action against the opposition bench, he quipped that it “depends on my mood”.

'Shameful, despicable and disgraceful'

Nazri was referring to the placards that were brought into the Dewan Rakyat, which he said were clearly against provisions in the Standing Orders as they were not approved by the speaker.

“What they did was shameful, despicable and a disgrace to our parliamentary democracy. We are all honourable, don’t cheat la . They are not honourable, they are dishonourable. They are cheaters and liars,” he said.

NONE Anwar was accused of misleading the House and was later referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for claiming that international public relations firm Apco Worldwide, which advises the Najib administration, had links with the Zionist regime.

After a major ruckus in the Dewan Rakyat, the motion to suspend Anwar was passed.

Three other MPs - Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor), R Sivarasa (PKR-Subang) and Azmin Ali (PKR-Gombak) - were suspended for six months as well for criticising the committee’s investigation methodology against Anwar.

The trio were unhappy with the proceedings because Anwar’s defence was never called. They were suspended for revealing details about the committee’s investigation before the report was tabled to the Dewan Rakyat.
